- JANUARY 21, 2012 - In this week’s address, President Obama told the American people
about steps his Administration is taking to make it easier for
travelers to visit the United States, because increasing tourism will
help local economies and support businesses looking to expand and
hire. This plan to boost tourism is part of a series of actions the
President has taken without Congress, because we can’t wait any longer
to take the steps we need to help grow the economy and create jobs.
President Obama also said that in next week’s State of the Union
Address, he outlined his blueprint for how our elected leaders and all
Americans can work together to create an economy that is built to last.

As
part of Black Press Magazine's new series, "OBAMA WEEKLY," we are
pleased to present the transcript of President Obama's "Creating Jobs by
Boosting Tourism" speech as delivered on Saturday, January 21, 2012.
The President's remarks appear in boldface.

"Hello,
everybody. On Thursday, I went down to Florida to visit Disneyworld.
To Sasha and Malia’s great disappointment, I was not there to hang out
with Mickey or ride Space Mountain. Instead, I was there to talk
about steps we’re taking to boost tourism and create jobs.

Tourism
is the number one service we export. Every year, tens of millions of
tourists come from all over the world to visit America. They stay in
our hotels, eat at our restaurants, and see all the sights America has
to offer.

That’s good for local
businesses. That’s good for local economies. And the more folks who
visit America, the more Americans we get back to work. It’s that
simple.

We can’t wait to seize
this opportunity. As I’ve said before, I will continue to work with
Congress, states, and leaders in the private sector to find ways to move
this country forward. But where they can’t act or won’t act, I
will. Because we want the world to know that America is open for
business. And that’s why I announced steps we’re taking to promote
America and make it easier for tourists to come and visit.

Frequent
travelers who pass an extensive background check will be able to scan
their passports and fingerprints and skip long lines at immigration at
more airports. We’re going to expand the number of countries where
visitors can get pre-cleared by Homeland Security so they don’t need a
tourist visa. And we’re going to speed up visa processing for
countries with growing middle classes that can afford to visit America –
countries like China and Brazil.

We
want more visitors coming here. We want them spending money here.
It’s good for our economy, and it will help provide the boost more
businesses need to grow and hire. And we can’t wait to make it
happen.

Too often over the last
few months, we’ve seen Congress drag its feet and refuse to take steps
we know will help strengthen our economy. That’s why this is the
latest in a series of actions I’ve taken on my own to help our economy
keep growing, creating jobs, and restoring security for middle-class
families.

In September, we
decided to stop waiting for Congress to fix No Child Left Behind and
give states the flexibility they need to help our kids meet higher
standards. We made sure that small businesses that have contracts with
the Federal Government can get paid faster so they can start hiring
more people. We made it easier for veterans to get jobs and put their
skills to work. We took steps to help families whose home values have
fallen refinance their mortgages and save up to thousands of dollars a
year. We sped up the loan process for companies that want to rebuild
our roads and bridges – putting construction workers back on the job.
And I appointed Richard Cordray to be America’s consumer watchdog and
protect working Americans from the worst abuses of the financial
industry.

These are good steps. Now we need to do more.

On
Tuesday evening, I’ll deliver my State of the Union Address, where
I’ll lay out my blueprint for actions we need to take together – not
just me, or Congress, but every American – to rebuild an economy where
hard work and responsibility are rewarded. An economy that’s built to
last.

I hope you’ll tune in.
In the meantime, I’m going to keep doing everything I can to make this
country not only the best place to visit and do business – but the best
place to live and work and build a better life.

Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend. And I’ll see you on Tuesday."

LISTEN NOW BELOW:
"These guys were smart of enough to start their own project, dedicating a very creative and extremely catchy tribute song to Heavy D, a man they respect because of his lyrical talent and the fact that he hails from their hometown of Mount Vernon, NY. While I was covering Heavy's funeral, they put the mixtape in my hand and the rest is history. I'm really honored to help them get the exposure that they truly deserve," Livers said.

Heavy D was buried on Friday, November 18, 2011. - After the nation was stunned by the untimely death of beloved
rapper/actor Heavy D, TMZ saw an opportunity to poke fun at his death
while driving up Web traffic by writing:

"Lindsay Lohan and Heavy D
are closer now than they've ever been before, TMZ has learned ...
because they're both serving serious time at the L.A. County morgue --
for very different reasons.

Lindsay has been
working like a dog at the morgue for weeks -- and now we've confirmed
... Heavy D's body is currently being stored in the same facility.

Lindsay's
morgue work does entail some corpse contact -- but sources tell TMZ,
the actress will NOT come face-to-face with Heavy D's cadaver.

So close ... yet so far." - TMZ's website link: http://www.tmz.com/2011/11/10/lindsay-lohan-heavy-d-morgue/2/#comments-anchor

"As
soon as I saw it, I lost it," said DC Livers, managing editor for the
Historical Black Press Foundation which is a trade association for
Black-owned media outlets and a media watchdog group that reports on the
media industry. "Heavy D was not just personally important to me but
historically significant to American history because he was the only
rapper that never cussed, broke barriers for what a rapper looked like
and was an all-around great person who flat out deserved better," said
Livers.

"Let's face it," Livers continued. "Celebrities
drive web traffic and influence advertising traffic and TMZ knows that. I
personally called TMZ to help them understand the ethical issues with
their actions and they hung up on me twice. I finally spoke with their
publicist Casey Culver who not only refused to pull the article but said
it would be part of their permanent archive. That's why it was
important to publicize their phone number to get the public to know what
was happening," Livers said.

TMZ,
which continues to try to capitalize on Heavy D's death and use it as
an opportunity to drive up web traffic away from MediaTakeOut, a
competing website that is Black-owned, was angered that so many people
called to complain. In fact, they mentioned the situation on their Nov.
10, 2011 TV show while downplaying the situation.

In
real life, TMZ showed its true colors, even admitted that they were
intentionally joking about Heavy D's death. When callers complained to
TMZ, they were told "YOU PEOPLE need to learn how to take a joke."

Of
course, race also played a role in the coverage. More than one
celebrity or important person has died since Lindsey Lohan began working
at the Los Angeles morgue, but TMZ knew that its mostly White audience
wouldn't care very much about a rapper's death so it was the perfect
opportunity to have a laugh at Heavy D and his family's expense.

The
website isn't publishing Heavy D's funeral information. It has not even
published reaction from some of the people he influenced like Sean "P
Diddy" Combs, Mary J Blige, among others. Instead, TMZ has one focus and
one mission: Captialize on the death of a popular rapper and try to
steal MediaTakeOut's audience.

Since TMZ thought it unimportant to publish Heavy D's funeral information, BlackPressRadio has posted it below:

FUNERAL FOR HEAVY D ANNOUNCED

Dwight "Heavy D" Myers Services

Viewing ServicesWednesday, Nov. 16, 2011

12:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Yannantuono Funeral Home

584 Gramatan Ave

Mt Vernon, NY

914 699-4010

http://www.yannantuonofh.com/

Heavy D Funeral

Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 11:00 am

Grace Baptist Church

52 South 6th Avenue

Mt Vernon, NY

914 664-2676

http://www.gracebapt.org/

RELATED HEAVY D ARTICLES:

Read a powerful article written by Heavy D:

http://globalgrind.com/channel/culture/content/1336868/believe-in-ridiculous-dreams

Amber Rose dishes on Kanye West

Narcissistic. And well, just flat out nuts. After dumping her husband Kris Humphries and telling the media before telling him, Kim Kardashian does an interview to try to save her reputation and her "almighty brand."

Kim gets sympathy from the interviewers and she tries really hard to play the victim. Do you believe her?
out escaping the country to try to avoid facing your hubby who found
out about his divorce from the Internet isn't good for business. That's
why Kim Kardashian has issued yet another statement, her second in as
many days. This time, Kardashian tries to play victim to the E! Network
filming demands and is taking Tiger Woods' approach and dodging the real
issue: Herself.

Everyone
- including Kim - knows that if she profited from the wedding (which of
course she did) she will have to pay Kris Humphries because the wedding
was a joint venture. During TV interviews with fans in New York, one
woman say "Kim Kardashian iis too greedy and self centered to allow the
man to have what is rightfully his. At least leave him with the money he
earned by appearing in the wedding."

Screen
Actors Guild requires that actors who appear on camera and have a
speaking role be compensated. Kris has appeared on camera enough to earn
his SAG card, plus he will appear in upcoming episodes of "Kim and
Kourtney take New York" that premieres on the E! Network on November 27.
All TV shows are either SAG or AFTRA. The only non-union work
on mainstream TV is usually some kind of low end hosting gig or a
reality TV, but the "Keeping up with the Kardashians" show is a big
brand therefore Kris Humphries deserves big bucks.

Plus
Kim says she doesn't want to part ways with her Hermes dishes and other
high-end loot that she and her mom strategically put on the wedding
registry. At least now we know why they didn't want Kris Humphries
involved in the selection because they probably knew Kim was going to
keep it all.

In her newest statement, Kardashian says,
"First and foremost, I married for love. I can’t believe I even have
to defend this. I would not have spent so much time on something just
  for a TV show!"

So how does one fall out of love after 72 days?

Kardashian
goes on to say, "I’m being honest here and I hope you respect my
courage because this isn’t easy to go through. I never had the
intention of hurting anybody and I accept full responsibility for my
actions and decisions, and for taking everyone on this journey with
me."

Courage would have been to say, 'I can't go through with this wedding' before saying "I do" at the wedding.

She
closes by trying to get the public to believe that the Kardashians
would allow E! to make millions off her wedding but she walked away
without a dime.

"There are also reports that I made
millions of dollars off of the wedding. These reports are simply not
true and it makes me so sad to have to even clarify this. I’m so
grateful to everyone who took the time to come to my wedding and I’ll
be donating the money for all the gifts to the Dream Foundation,"
she said.

People magazine paid millions to the wedded
couple for their wedding photos. That check has already been cashed, so
Kim's continued lies are only making the matter worse.

For
anyone who is still interested, you can read Kim Kardashian's entire
SECOND STATEMENT here www.BlackPressRadio.com below:

A Message To My Fans
November 1, 2011

"This
is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write. I see all of the
support and I am so thankful for my fans, friends and family who are
helping me through this difficult time.

I am trying not to
read all the different media reports but it’s hard not to see all the
negative ones. First and foremost, I married for love. I can’t believe I
even have to defend this. I would not have spent so much time on
something just for a TV show! I share so much of my life on a reality
show, that contemplating whether to even film my wedding was a tough
decision to make, and maybe it turned out to not be the smartest
decision. But it’s who I am! We filmed Kourtney giving birth, Khloe
getting married, break ups, make ups, our best moments and our worst
moments. These were all real moments. That’s what makes us who we are.
We share, we give, we love and we are open!

Everyone that
knows me knows that I’m a hopeless romantic! I love with all of my heart
and soul. I want a family and babies and a real life so badly that
maybe I rushed in to something too soon. I believed in love and the
dream of what I wanted so badly. I felt like I was on a fast roller
coaster and couldn’t get off when now I know I probably should have. I
got caught up with the hoopla and the filming of the TV show that when I
probably should have ended my relationship, I didn’t know how to and
didn’t want to disappoint a lot of people.

I’m being
honest here and I hope you respect my courage because this isn’t easy to
go through. But I do know that I have to follow my heart. I never had
the intention of hurting anybody and I accept full responsibility for my
actions and decisions, and for taking everyone on this journey with me.
It just didn’t turn out to be the fairy tale I had so badly hoped for.

There
are also reports that I made millions of dollars off of the wedding.
These reports are simply not true and it makes me so sad to have to even
clarify this. I’m so grateful to everyone who took the time to come to
my wedding and I’ll be donating the money for all the gifts to the Dream
Foundation.

I’m sorry if I have hurt anyone, but my dad always told me to follow my heart and I believe now that I really am."

- Kim Kardashian

Comic Con 2011: Behind-the-Scenes with Black comic/video experts

Comic Con 2011: Black PressRadio's DC Livers speaks exclusively with Black comic experts, artists and journalists at the inaugural day of the event.

Exclusive by DC Livers for Black Press Magazine

(BlackPress.org) - Despite being laid to rest today, rumors regarding the death of R&B singer Vesta Williams
continue to swirl. The latest rumor being reported by Majic 102.1 FM in
Houston, TX's website suggesting that Williams was possibly murdered.

In an attempt to get straight to the facts, Black PressRadio's DC Livers spoke directly with the publicist for Ms. Williams moments ago.

"[The rumors] are quite hurtful. People need to stop,"
said the publicist for Vesta Williams and her family."[Vesta] was in
the best state of her life. She was in the second phase of her life and
on a whole new track. She had everything going for her including working
on a big tour. Everything was turning up roses," said Williams'
publicist.

Livers asked the publicist to address some of
the rumors in particular Williams' living arrangement at the hotel, what
happens to her music publishing rights and the pills that were found
next to her bed.

"No one knows if they were
sleeping pills or prescription and how many were ingested in her system.
Her autopsy report will be released to the family in the coming weeks
by the end of this month," she said. "Her history and personality was
not one of substance abuse, so everyone needs to wait until the autopsy
is released," she said.

The family is
handling her music publishing rights and other affairs. Private
donations that are not flowers should be sent directly to the family.
Anyone wishing to contact the family may call 646-450-4249 or email
blackpressradio@yahoo.com and the information will be forwarded directly
to them.

According to Los Angeles coroner Capt. John
Kades, Mary Vesta Williams died on Sept. in a hotel room in El Segundo,
CA. She was buried at West Angeles Church of God in Christ. She was 53.

The singer was featured a still popular McDonald's commercial with fellow singer Al Jareau and also made several appearances on the TV show "Sister, Sister" which starred Tia and Tamera Mowry as Jackee Harry's best friend Monica.

"Vesta
had new lucrative business contracts and offers, and was moving into a
brand new home. [At the time that she died], she was just trying to
decide which way she wanted to go, but never got the chance," she said.

BlackPressRadio was given photos and a funeral recap.
